We live in a great big world, but the moment we go online, it shrinks to nothing. A couple of mouse clicks later and you can be sharing stories with someone halfway across the world that you have never met before in your life. Social media has helped shy, lonely people cultivate friendships that would never have happened just a few short years ago. It has also helped small businesses expand to a global level, although it has to be said that the businesses that have the most success in that regard are the ones that are able to be unique.
What does it mean to be unique on social media sites, though? Well, if you think of your profile page as a blank canvas, you then become the artist whose job it is to fill that space with things that would be viewed at as a self-portrait of sorts. A personal profile page would show off your personality traits and all the things that you love, whereas a business profile page would be an extension of the brand that you have worked so hard to cultivate over time.
There really is no right or wrong way to fill up the space on your social media pages, just try not to be boring when you do it. If you are going to be the person that delivers information to the masses, make it something that is truly interesting. If you can do that, the info you share will go viral and potentially land in front of millions of people. On the business side of things, make sure that the information you share is actually relevant to what you are doing, People will have followed you for a specific reason and will expect to see content and information relevant to what you do.
Another thing to keep in mind here is that you can’t really be unique if the information you are sharing is just recycled from somewhere else. Let the information and content you share be your own and let everyone else fill up their pages with your stuff. If you can be an original in one way or another, you’ll find that people will flock to your pages to see what you have to offer. It’s a great way to allow your true character to shine through, which can be especially beneficial for a small business.
There are definite restrictions to how you can “decorate” your profile pages on social media, which is why it’s up to you to make it something special. How you do that is entirely up to you. You might be the king of content like we discussed earlier in the piece, or you can deliver discounts to your visitors that will make them want to keep coming back for more. There are plenty of techniques you can use to stand out in the crowd, you just have to find something that works best for you and which shows you and your business off in a positive light.
